Hey, my name is Matthew Barlow and I am from Bourne, Massachusetts. I went to a technical high school for marine technology where I learned welding, painting and carpentry skills. This summer I worked at Woods Whole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) as a shop services assistant. I love snowboarding and hiking so moving up to Plymouth State was an easy choice. Media and communications class has been great so far and I look forward to the year.
We encounter aspects of online disinhibition every day and never stop to think about it. The sub-conscious separation of online vs “real” life is really interesting because until this class I didn’t realize the problem with that idea. Solipsistic introjection really opened my eyes. Most of the aspects people are at least semi-aware of, but we are all guilty of seeing something online and just assuming the intention of the author. Our minds trying to fill in what it normally would with nonverbal communication speaks to the importance of that communication in our lives.
